Luke Peers is a photographer/videographer based in Bath and he wanted me help to create the visuals for a new podcast he was launching this would be going live on both Apple Podcast and Spotify and would need artwork for both the podcast cover image for the show itself and for each episode. Each episode will shine a spotlight on a different artists, musician or small business owner and Luke was keen for each one to have a little touch of variation whilst also keeping a consistent foundation. The episodes will go out monthly so Luke was keen to be able to amend the episode artwork himself so he could add and launch himself.
Luke and I have a great history of working together having already created his website for his photography/videography business, so when it came to this project we had a nice working pattern sorted.
Something that was key to this project was how the artwork could be amended easily to keep with a flexible episode release schedule. Before we got down to working through ideas Luke and I discussed how we could make this work effectively so Luke could amend the artwork and release and episode anytime that he was ready to do so.
We achieved this in Adobe Illustrator, Luke had his own account and was familiar with using it so I created the artwork in Illustrator with various notes on where to put things and it worked a dream!
From a creative perspective we started with a chat over the phone to get a good feel of what energy Luke wanted to achieve with the podcast artwork, while we we’re chatting I sketched out various ideas and sent pictures of them over to get his feedback. Once we decided on the strongest ideas I got to work in Adobe Illustrator bringing those ideas to life, keeping in mind the responsive nature of the artwork as these would be seen in various sizes across different devices.
We had some strong initial ideas so after a few small amendments the design wss ready to rock, We then spent some time putting together a colour palette that Luke could choose from for each episode, giving a bit of variation between the episodes but with a consistent foundation.
This was such a fun project to work on and I was really excited to see it in action in the Podcasts app when it went live. We landed on a great design that worked well at various different sizes and the Illustrator file deliverable worked a dream for Luke to be able to edit for each episode. So far the podcast has had some brilliant guests and I’m enjoying sitting back into being a listener.
